Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and the developer of Universal TV Remote(“the App”, “we”, “us”). By downloading, installing, or using the App you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App. If you use the App on behalf of someone else (for example a family member’s device), you confirm you are authorised to accept these Terms for that use.

The App turns a compatible phone into a remote control for smart TVs and streaming devices (including Samsung, Android TV / Google TV, and Roku) over a shared local Wi-Fi network, and for other TVs via the phone’s built-in infrared transmitter where the hardware exists. Features include directional navigation, keypad and touchpad input, volume and channel control, app launching, text and voice search, and shortcuts to the system casting tools.

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your country, if higher) to use the App. If you are under 18, you should use the App with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms.

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on devices you own or control, for private, non-commercial use, in accordance with these Terms and the rules of the store you obtained it from (Google Play or the Apple App Store). All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

You agree that you will only use the App to control devices you own or are authorised to control. In particular, you must not:

• Use the App to operate, interfere with, or disrupt TVs, displays, or networks that belong to others without their permission (for example in shops, hotels, schools, bars, offices, or public spaces);
• Use the App to harass others or to cause damage, loss, or unwanted behaviour on any device;
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the App except where the law expressly permits it;
• Copy, resell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the App or bundle it in another product;
• Circumvent, remove, or interfere with advertising, or use automation to generate fraudulent ad impressions or clicks;
• Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations, including computer-misuse and unauthorised-access laws.

We may suspend or terminate your licence if you materially breach this section.

• The App communicates with TVs using the manufacturers’ publicly available local control protocols. Feature availability differs by brand, model, and firmware version — some functions (for example app launching or text search) are not supported by every TV.
• You are responsible for the security and configuration of your own Wi-Fi network and devices. We recommend using the App only on networks you trust.
• Pairing with some devices (such as Android TV) requires you to confirm a code shown on the TV; keep control of your TV’s pairing settings to decide which phones may connect.

The App is free and funded by advertising served through Meta Audience Network. Ads are provided by third parties and may be personalised subject to your device and account settings, as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not endorse and are not responsible for products or services advertised. We may change ad providers, formats, or frequency, or offer paid ad-free options, at any time.

Samsung, Android TV, Google TV, Roku, Chromecast, YouTube, Netflix, and any other brand names that appear in the App are trademarks of their respective owners. The App is an independent utility and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any TV manufacturer or streaming service. Brand names and logos are used solely to identify the devices and apps you can control. Third-party services you reach through the App (for example a streaming app on your TV, or your device’s speech-recognition service) are governed by their own terms.

We may release updates that add, change, or remove features, and we may discontinue the App or support for specific TV models at any time. Updates may be required for the App to keep working. TV manufacturers can change their firmware or protocols in ways that break compatibility; we try to keep up but cannot guarantee continued interoperability.

THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, OR UNINTERRUPTED OPERATION. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL WORK WITH EVERY TV, NETWORK, OR PHONE, OR THAT IT WILL BE ERROR-FREE OR SECURE.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE APP — INCLUDING ANY CHANGES MADE TO YOUR TV OR ITS SETTINGS THROUGH THE APP — EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP (WHICH, FOR THE FREE APP, IS ZERO) OR, WHERE A MINIMUM CANNOT BE EXCLUDED BY LAW, THE SMALLEST AMOUNT PERMITTED.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including consumer-protection rights that apply in your country.

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs arising out of your breach of these Terms or your unlawful use of the App, including use of the App to control devices without authorisation.

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. These Terms remain in effect while you use the App; Sections 8, 10, 11, 12, and 15 survive termination. We may terminate or suspend the licence granted to you if you breach these Terms.

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date above will change, and material changes will be signposted in the App or its store listing. Your continued use of the App after a revision takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Kenya, except that if you reside in a jurisdiction whose consumer laws grant you the right to sue in your local courts under local law, those rights are preserved. App-store terms (Google Play Terms of Service, Apple Media Services Terms) additionally apply to your download and may grant the store operator third-party-beneficiary rights.

• Entire agreement: these Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us concerning the App.
• Severability: if any provision is held unenforceable, the remainder stays in force.
• No waiver: failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
• Assignment: you may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of the App.
